Below i am posting a procedure to convert Microsoft office to full version:
Converting Microsoft Office 2007 to Full Version:
This requires that Microsoft Office 2007 has been installed without the product key in the first place.
Once Microsoft Office 2007 has been installed with no product key, proceed as follows:
1. In Windows Explorer, browse to the following folder:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedOFFICE12Office Setup ControllerProof.en
2. Right click on Proof.XML file, select Open With in the right click menu.
3. In the Open With window, select Notepad to be used to open the XML file.
[Note: In Windows Vista, if you can’t see the Notepad option, simply double click the “Other Programs” to unhide it.]
4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Proof.XML to locate the following lines:
<feature Id="SetupXmlFiles" Cost="1248″><optionref Id=”AlwaysInstalled”/></feature>
5. Change the AlwaysInsalled to neverInstalled so that the line looks like following:
<optionref Id="neverInstalled"/>
[In Windows Vista, you may need to take ownership and grant full access permission to yourself before able to modify the file. We already have a detailed article on that. Here is the link to How to take Ownership of a File in Windows Vista]
7. You can now launch Microsoft Office 2007 application such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and etc without prompting for activation.

For me it didn't work on windows 7, so what i did was:
1. Locate proof.XML file
2.Cut and Paste to desktop.
3.Right click and choose "Take ownership"
4.Edit the file with Notepad
5.Close and save file
6.Go back to the folder you where the file was originally
7.Drag the file in to the folder
8.Launch microsoft office 2007
9.Enjoy!

I tried it with Windows 7. I had to save the file at desktop and copy and paste the file to the correct folder. It works and i don't have to worry about the activation prompt every single time i start an office application.
BUT, it is only set up as a "ready only". That's cool. That is exactly what you said it would do.
But i still need to type so i guess i am better off buying the software license key.

Hi there. I have Windows 7 and tried this. Was firstly told access denied so went into the files properties>secruity and edited my User permissions to allow all of the unticked boxes.
I then went back into the Notepad file and changed to neverInstall, but the only result it had was that it no longer prompts for the Product Key when opening Word, but still has the whole thing in lock down. Any other way around this or am I a bit screwed?

I accidently opened and edited a file in the 2007 excel and I have 2010 activated and downloaded but for somereason defaulted to the 2007- in short- anyone have a 2007 product key for excel so that I can save my 4 hours worth of work to my 2010? HELP!!

For everyone that i didnt work for,right click the folder proof,dont click on setup controller. Right click on the proof FOLDER (under setup controller) and go to properties. Go to security, and allow access for all users. then it should let u save the notepad files

Wonderful,however to make it work, I had to alter the Proof.XML file with notepad as per the instructions, after that i could not save it, so i had to copy all the text open a new blank notepad, paste text from clipboard, save it as proof.XML and than copy this new XML file and replace the original XML with the new XML file. If that makes sense.

It works, at least for now. For those of you getting access denied, make sure all office applicatins are closed. Open the xml file, do not save but instead save as and on your desktop for ex. Then delete the original file and move the altered one. In the process you will get some "Are you sure?" windows. But that works.
As a developer myself, I feel this kind of process is wrong but office 2007 is so old that it should be made free already.

proof.en just removes the activation window. If your office is locked. It won't unlock it. Maybe before removing the activation window with NEVER in the proof.en Make sure you got a few days left to verify it will not lock after removing it

Why not try and add "127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com" to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts at least this way the activation can't touch M$ Servers...
